The neck is made of mahogany. From a block of wood I saw the rough shape of the neck on my bandsaw. Onto the head I glue two strips to make it wider. With spokeplanes, rasps, files and sandpaper I form the neck. No two necks are exactly the same but when I feel it feels good; it feels good! Next I drill the holes in the head for the tuners. And the holes for the connection to the kettle. Then a waterbased lacquer for a smooth finish and easy playing.
The fretboard
The fretboard is made of a rectangular piece of palissandre. After bringing it to the right thickness I glue a strip of paper on it with the fretscale. With a small tablesaw I cut the fretslots. Then I saw the fretboard to fit the neck. With a nylon hammer the frets are carefully hammered in place. The sides are sanded smooth and so are the frets.
